What happens when you learn your family has harbored a stunning secret and it turns your life upside down?

Evie was almost 30 years old and single. Her luck with men was bad – or nonexistent… depending on how you looked at it. She worked at a thankless job for an overbearing boss. A weekend getaway with her mother and aunt led her to the wooded lands owned by her family for generations. There she learns not everything is what she thought and some legends were born from real events.

An ancient warrior and the King’s named successor, Aulis, had never singled any one woman out for his attention. He swore that once he Marked his chosen mate – he would give himself to her heart and soul. He swore to protect not only the people of Tuatha De but also the Guardian of this generation. Together with his twin, Ari, he must root out the evil threatening the very essence of their people.

Tired of being manipulated by men, Evie is wary of the powerful warrior who stirs feelings she has never known. Aulis is drawn to the fiery little redhead and feels a compelling need to protect Evie even at the cost of his own life. Will their love come together before the dark forces tear them apart?

There were times I wasn't sure why I kept reading this book. There was a lot of suspension of disbelief needed, yes, I know it was supposed to be fantasy, but after a point it just got really hard to do.

Evie was almost thirty and a virgin. I know it's possible, but she was supposed to be beautiful. So, every man she'd gone out with or encountered treated her terrible? This was just a bit hard to believe.

There was of course the "insta-love." Oh, and the person determined to get Aulis as her own even though he'd turned her down for centuries. Then another person determined to get Evie from Aulis. It felt so cliche.

The fairies used phrases like "oh, hell no" "good lord" and other modern phrases, but the one that made Evie giggle over it being modern was "if the shoe fits"? Was she not listening to the others?

The formatting was odd, the grammar at times was off, and in a couple of places the narrative switched between first and third person. It needed a very good editor.

Evie did not sound like an almost thirty year old woman. There were times she came off overly innocent, like she'd been sheltered all her life, to a sarcastic teenager. She's still being told what to do by her mother. "Be on your best behavior." It was crazy.

I feel like there were a lot of good ideas in this book, but it was all very rushed. It was like Evie met the fairies and everything was put on extreme fast forward. Had it been slowed down and some of the ideas taken out, it could have been a better story.

Secret Royal eBook SC Wise Reviews

The characters are so interesting and believable. The plot has several twists and turns. This is a book I will continue to enjoy
I really enjoyed this book. I would have paid for it if I needed to. I was disappointed to see the author hadn't written any other books
I read this a while ago but this story still stays with me ! Excellent writing and I loved the charcherters ! Just a really awsome fairy story!
This was an incredible story! I loved it! I love the characters and the exciting storyline. This packed an awesome punch. Aulis and Ari are HOT HOT HOT! I loved Evie and Kimberly. They were spunky and fun!

This is a must read if you like a fairy love story all in one!
So why only three stars? Well there wasn't much character depth. There was no back story or nothing behind them to tell us why they were who they were. Everything happened so quickly. I really did like the main characters as well as the villains....we just needed more back fill. Also a couple of times the author confused the names of the characters.... a little confusing there but overall, I really did like it.
There's not many books out there that make a very nice combination of an action/suspense novel that still caters to the romantic, daydreamer women out there, especially mothers or expecting mothers. It was a very sweet read with a tasteful fairy world setting with a nice twist at the end that wasn't expected but not overly outrageous at the same time. Although, the only fault I can find with this book is the fact that I wished S.C. Wise had written the ending twist a bit longer to see more interaction of the bad guys (not to give too much away).

Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy romance involving the fairy lore.
I tried really hard to like this book, but there were quite a few times where it was just so cheesy or poorly written I had to exit my kindle all together and do something else. The main character Evie is an adult woman who acts like a teenager, but everyone else (in the book) just loves her, everyone is BFFs right away except of course the jealous other woman. She faints twice and after the second time the men with her gush about how strong and independent she is. She goes on about how she's not going to let men control her but the next minute is dumping her entire life for a man. The same things happen over and over again, or characters say the same thing several times, or you get the same description of a character 5 times. It's like some fairy tale written by a 14 year old. Save your money for another book.
